Ladies I GROSSLY underestimated how difficult quilting is. And I thought finding the fabric and getting it cut was the hard part! Oh no. NO no, friends I'm here to tell you that if you go to those crafty blogs and think "Oh, that looks easy enough, I think I'll try that." DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT TRY IT! You will want to go outside and freeze to death instead. (Rachel and Mama Belle, you will want to die of heat stroke, do you even know what freezing feels like?)
I still find it absolutely hilarious that their are some people that have know idea what I'm talking about when it comes to winter!
Back to sewing.
So I decided to make Linda a blanket. I was going to do it for her birthday, but I just wasn't motivated enough, so I thought ok I have months until Christmas, I can make it happen.
Throw in the circus of Joann's and well, I was ready to forget it. Then Sweet Linda emails me asking whatever did I mean when I posted "Sorry Linda." So naturally I can not lie and she basically threw a tiny fit for a blanket. (It's OK Linda we all have them, and I still love you. Why do you think I'm murdering myself over this?)
Are you ready for some pictures?
FYI: No I will NOT be taking orders and Linda this was my
PRACTICE blanket. It's not yours. I can only let the dog have this one, I am shamed.
Wintery fabric. Check.
Do you know how tedious it is to cut fabric into tons and tons of squares? I did NOT. Squares. Check.
This part took FOREVER. I watched both soaps +commercials and Survivor. That is 3 hours!
Squares pinned in the pattern. Check.
Zabadoodee...we're sewing.
STILL sewing. It was light when I started. Morning. It's night now and I'm still sewing! Do you notice the new machine? Huh did ya did ya? That's cause I ran out of thread and had to go to the fabric store, Not
Joanns. And there she was on SALE! Daddy Santa said I could buy it. The ladies told me I needed to use it within 60 days...so naturally I went straight home and USED IT!. I have to wrap the empty boxes...
YEAH, still sewing. Butter wants her goodnight hug and kiss! My new machine is SWEET! It has decorative stitches on it! CAN you imagine? (Well, Sara you might.) But I am so excited...
And TA DA here it is the practice quilt.
I screwed up the pattern, it was after 2 AM when I finished pinning and I couldn't just leave it on the floor...Oh, well now that I have one under my belt I feel OK about making another.
I must now go join my family for movie night. I have neglected them for two days. We are watching WALL-E. Do I smell popcorn.............................
It looks great! I have great admiration for anyone that can sew. I can barely sew a button on.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your movie.
I think it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I can't even sew on a button. :)
And I do enjoy a quilt from time to time... when I knock the air down to 65. :)
Ohmygosh that's awesome. I've always wanted to learn to quilt! I don't know why you're shamed and giving that piece of art to the dog (unless you like Really love your dog somethin' fierce in which case rock on) because it looks swell to me and you should be really proud of yourself!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Whitney
you are so funny!! It is gorgeous!!! anyone would be happy to receive that blanket!!
ReplyDeleteEven though I currently live in AR, I understand freezing. We lived in Minot, ND for 4+ years and it was 92 degrees BELOW zero when my youngest was born!!! I am so glad to be in the south again!!!
btw, the new machine looks sweet!!!
Dang, girl! You did that in no time! I still have fabric I bought on my honeymoon (5 1/2 years ago...*cough*) that is supposed to become a quilt. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI have a half finished quilt for my daughter. I think I will yank it off the shelf and finish it.
ReplyDeleteQuilts are a labor of love. I am glad to see I am not the only one that struggled with completing one. :)
It looks really nice! I am impressed! I have always wanted to learn to sew...can't even sew a button on a shirt!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Baby Tunnel Exodus - that must be one LOVED dog if he gets that beautiful quilt! I think it is awesome! I love to craft, but yes, it takes an obnoxious amount of patience. :)
