Cookies!

Many of you know that my relationship with my Mother is a tumoltuious one. We have gone months without speaking, and then with a prompting from God, I reached out, all the while leaning on Him in case the hurt comes again...
Baking cookies is a tradition in my family. Mother and Grandmother would spend countless days baking, decorating and plating cookies. Hundred of dozens. Thousands of cookies. I am not really into it, I say that with much regret, but God just did not put that passion in me. Mother holds out hope that maybe one of her grandkids will carry on the tradition. Butter seems poised to be the one. She takes instruction very well, she is ligth with the rolling pin and "gets" the dough. This sugar cut out dough is NOT easy to "get". It is a finicky thing that takes major patience and time to master. (Maybe that is why I dislike it so much. I'm a mix it up, throw on a pan, bake it and eat it kinda girl!)

I was so moved by Butter's work ethic while baking. She was a little machine, rolling out, cutting, sheeting and her favorite job, sprinkling the sugar! It was so cute to watch Mother show her the "trick" to the proper sprinkle (yes there IS such a thing) and she her master it and
then try to instruct her brother who would come in like a bull and just dump. She would get so upset, even sighing with her hands on her hips and then finally banishing him. Look at how cute he looks in his little red Santa apron! Yeah, don't let his looks fool you! This kid is not fun to have around in the kitchen. He is just too young yet to understand hot stoves/ovens/pans and cookie sheets are not meant to be jumped, skipped, hopped and twirled around!

I can't be postive on this, but I'm pretty sure Butter made 80% of these! Start to finish she did them. I know I did the animals, I had to try them. Mother used to do them but the are very futsy...I can hnestly say I will never do them again!

Butter did an amazing job. This took the better part of a day. But it was wonderful being there to watch and witness some bonding between my daughter and my Mother. Now I'm going to go enjoy some of my daughter's hard work!!!

Tempting Tuesday.

Yesterday I got a sweet treat from Rachel. She gave me a cute little bloggy award. (see sidebar) So I'm going to give you all a treat of my own!

Ok I've been talking about this for awhile now. My Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Oh, I have tons of recipes for those...you say? I sware if you don't love these cookies I'll buy your ingredients. Follow the recipe to the letter and you will be amazed. (I wouldn't even give these up to my bible study group.)

BUTTERVILLE SARA'S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!

  • 2 c plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 c (2 sticks) UNsalted butter

  • 1c plus 2 tablespoons firmly packed dark brown sugar

  • 1/2 c granulated sugar

  • 1 large whole egg

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 1/2 tablespoon pure Vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 c (1 bag) Semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • nuts if you'd wish (I don't)

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda; set aside. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Turn off heat and add both sugars; Whisk until combined. Transfer mixture to a large bowl, and let cool to room temperature. (About 20 minutes)

  2. Whisk egg, egg yolk, and vanilla into butter mixture. Fold in flour mixture until just combined. Fold in chips. (& nuts) Wrap dough in plastic wrap; Refrigerate until firm, about 30-40 minutes.

  3. Preheat oven to 325*. Using two large spoons, place golf -ball size mounds of dough 3 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake until golden brown and the tops no longer look wet, 12-14 minutes. (Watch them until you get a feel for your oven.)Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes; transfer to a wire rack.

STAND BACK! They will be gobble up.

I hope you like them. Just a note though these are tough in humid weather. They want to flatten out. Let me know what you think.

Scones

I got this yummy recipe off Flipflops & Applesauce. Since I had chili in the crock pot, I thought this looks easy. First I'll need a little help.

Always ready to help, my Roo. He mostly "tasted" the chocolate chips. But it was a fun break from football. (We still wore our purple pride though!)

I had some left over cream cheese frosting that we drizzled over the tops. YUMMY!

Never far from the action in the kitchen was Piper. Sorry girl, no chocolate for you.
