It Might Be Hope
by Sara Groves

you do your work the best that you can
you put one foot in front of the other
life comes in waves and makes it's demands
you hold on as well as you’re able

you've been here for a long long time

hope has a way of turning its face to you
just when you least expect it
you walk in a room
you look out a window
and something there leaves you breathless
you say to yourself
it's been a while since i felt this
but it feels like it might be hope

it's hard to recall what blew out the flame
it's been dark here since you can remember
you talk it all through to find it a name
as days go on by without number

you've been here for a long long time

chorus x3

Like I said music is something I need daily.
My child singing sweetly about cleaning her room. My son doing his best with Sherry Baby. I here a song and it'll transport me in time. You know that song 'Walking On Sunshine'? I can see myself sitting in the back of a convertible going down hill raising my hands to the sky and singing at the top of my lungs. I was 8. Or Motley Crew's Without You. Was our prom theme. I had on my black and white polka dot dress and was dancing with my 6'6" boyfriend only coming up to his waist!(Do not smirk! I had plenty of that in High School. We weren't like that. We barely kissed with tongue.)
Isn't She Lovely was playing when they wheeled me back from my c-section from having my baby girl. I'm pretty sure Hubby had something to do with that.
We chose The Wonder of You for our first dance. Hubby LOVES Elvis. I didn't want Can't Help Falling in Love...we compromised.
I got a ton of these. But the ones I truly cherish are the ones that God puts in your ears. The ones that come at the perfect time and say the right thing you need to here. It happens to me all the time.
What is your song of the moment?
Please share with me.

  1. You know, as of late - I've been shedding years away with "Our Song" by Taylor Swift ... it just takes me back to when my hubby and I were young sweethearts. Ahh, that young love - when you had no other cares but eachother ... just gets the blood pumpin' again, eh?

But, I truly have SO many songs that touch my heart ... music has such a hold on my life - with each page that is turned there is a song of remembrance.

Lately, I've been logging onto Playlist and putting together different lists for pick-me-ups or even cleaning the house ... you can find most any music! Like Bon Jovi, "Never Say Goodbye" - that reminds me of my high school freshman year. Or, Sheena Easton - remember her? I actually found the song that I did a 5th grade lip sync/dance routine to "Telefone" - LOL! I even wore a beret!

My memories are so intertwined with music and lyrics ... it's nice to know that others share this appreciation.

Oh, and I could not play the song that you had listed ... but I loved the lyrics!! :)

  2. ME too. music can move me beyond words. and speaking of words...when i actually listen to them closely, it reaches a whole new depth of the moment.

well, uh, except for those songs from the 80's that i used to ROCK out on and now as a mother i listen to them and realize in shock what kind of stuff i was singing out loud, along to!

and by one sound of my blog, you can tell my mood, huh? so as you can see...i can't stick with one!

  3. SO many many songs. I LOVE Sara Groves and right now I cling to "It's Going to be Alright"--one of my old posts talks about her concert and how she said, "this one if for Heather" before singing that song! I have no idea who she was talking to, but I pretended it was me.
any time I hear Guns-n-Roses I'm transported to high school.
When I hear "God Blessed the Broken Road" I think of our wedding day because it was sung there.
Oh I could go on and on...

  4. I have always loved obscure artists, I like songs because of how they make me feel, and yes, sometimes, I listen to silly songs that have no rhyme or reason, just because, I think sometimes those songs have more meaning to the person who wrote them then we could begin to imagine.
I am in love with Imogen Heap especially her "Goodnight and Go." It's morbid probably, but I really want that played at my funeral.
I love Geggy Tah because they're songs are silly.
When my kids are creeping up to the annoyance scale of my mom-o-meter, I answer every question with Qu'est-que-cest fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa... it drives them nuts, but hey, PsychoKiller has answered a lot of "Guess What?" Jokes from my kids.
Low Rider and Staurday (Di-de-da-da-da?) Throws me back to the end of highschool, Dazed and Confused, and YSA dances

Yes music is memories for sure.
