Holiday Happenings

Traditions are important and fun. I have enjoyed hearing some of you post about yours.

One tradition that Rob and I started is that we open gifts on Christmas Eve. We host an open house and everyone brings food to share. Rob's family always opened gifts Christmas Eve, we weren't allowed to open anything until Christmas morning. Which for me was horrible. I hated waiting. So we exchange gifts Christmas Eve, and on Christmas morning we look forward to Baby Jesus, gifts that Santa has left in our stockings and yummy Christmas brunch! We also give the kids new pajamas on Christmas eve.
Cookies are a big tradition too. Mother and Grandma Eleanor would bake for days. Hundreds of dozens of cookies. The favorites are the cut outs/sugar cookies. I can't do them. I've tried. But Me and the spritz cookie gun have a love affair! Mother could never get those to work for her ;)
Hear are the things special to us:

  1. Hey Girl,
I finally got my post up, so hop over and link up.

The years we're home for Christmas, we do exactly the same. We open gifts Cmas eve, and have Santa Cmas morning. My parents come over early and we fix a fun, finger food, Cmas brunch. It's my most favorite morning of the year! Thanks for sharing!

  3. With my son young, I am really getting excited about some new traditions. I plan on buying him some PJ's this year to open Christmas Eve. My husband and I used to open our gifts from each other at Midnight Christmas Eve...but that was when we weren't so dogg on' tired. Unfortunately, we don't do that anymore. I love to learn about other's traditions...thanks for sharing!

PS-I plan on liking up with you on Dec. 9th!!!! I can't wait to see everyone's trees!

  7. Whoa. That idea of the basket and lining it with deeds of kindness (represented by the fabric pieces) is brilliant. I should do that with Anja! Too young to understand it this year, but maybe next year.
